2010 to Quad or not to Quad

I was recently in Hawaii and found some time to get a session in at Ala Moana bowls on a clean head high day. When I am in a place other than home, I seem to pay close attention to the details of everything. All the new sights, sounds, and smells. What I found interesting at Ala Moana was the percentage of Quads in and out of the water. There was a contest, and the lawn in front of the contest zone was littered with Quads waiting for their heat. The Quads fully outnumbered the tri-fins by at least 5:1. The shorter and wider trend was also being fully embraced. Performance Quads seem to have made quite an impact on Oahu's south shore bowls.

The question is; will the summer of 2010 see a similar deployment of performance Quad shapes take to the water in Southern California?

A hurricane swell is in full swing right now...so what ever you have, get out and ride it.

Kyle Naughton Ripping Tavarua

It is good to see that Laguna Republic is making it's way around the world. These shots were pulled off of Facebook. Kyle Naughton (U.C.S.B. Student and Laguna Beach native) is a great guy and a great surfer...I think these shots verify that he can rip with the best of them.

An update to this blog is long overdue. Southern California has been blessed with a month of great waves and every surfer I know has had more than their fair share of waves.

LR Rider Sean Kimball Wins NSSA Jr. Championships

On Saturday April 18th, Sean Kimball rode the 6'3" LR Performance Tri-Fin (seen in post below) to Victory in the NSSA Jr. Championships. He came by the shaping bay right after his win with this Mega Trophy.

The contest was held on the South side of the Huntington Beach Pier in smaller sized waves that require more of the riders skills and abilities to really rip. Sean rose to the occasion and gave the crowd and the judges a show of stylized performance surfing at it's best.

We at Laguna Republic want to extend a big 'CONGRATULATIONS' to Sean for his accomplishment.

Some of you other Companies out there should take a hard look at this promising surfer for sponsorship opportunities.

Brian working on a Green Foam blank for the Surfrider Foundation. Brian teamed up with Chad Nelsen from Surfrider to shape a Bonzer using a recycled foam blank. Surfrider is hoping to use bamboo fins and maybe a pine tar based resin to make a environmentally friendly board.
